Jalen Green's Return: Can He Ignite the Phoenix Suns' Post-Break Surge? (2026)

Phoenix Suns' Hopes Hinge on a Healthy Jalen Green Reigniting Their Season!

After a challenging stretch marked by injuries, the Phoenix Suns are buzzing with anticipation for Jalen Green's return to the court. Green recently made his comeback against the Philadelphia 76ers, playing 16 minutes off the bench and contributing 8 points. This marks his sixth appearance in a Suns uniform since a significant offseason trade that sent Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, and five second-round selections.

But here's where it gets tough... Green's integration into the Suns' strategy has been significantly hampered by a series of injuries. Most recently, a hip contusion aggravated a persistent hamstring issue that has plagued him throughout the season. This has been a difficult period for Green, who confessed, "This is the most games I’ve missed in my life, the most time I’ve spent away from basketball." He's accustomed to playing at least 67 games per season, making this extended absence particularly challenging, even while he diligently worked on his conditioning.

With Green back and only two games left before the All-Star break, both the Suns and Green are eager to put these setbacks behind them. Coach Jordan Ott sees Green's return as a crucial element for the team to generate more rim pressure and believes he can be the catalyst for more drives to the basket over the remaining 29 games of the season. "We’re excited to see what that all looks like," Ott stated. "With Jalen, with our bigs, with our offensive rebounding, in transition, our cutting. We’ve got to somehow just get there more."

And this is the part most people miss... Ott is particularly keen to explore the pick-and-roll game between Green and the Suns' big men, such as Oso Ighodaro and Mark Williams, as Green hasn't had much opportunity to develop this synergy. "What we’ve seen so far is his ability to hit the roll," Ott observed, highlighting Green's effectiveness in this area during his limited game time.

The shadow of reaggravating his hamstring injury has been a significant mental hurdle for Green. He shared his progress, noting, "I was able to run without thinking much." However, he acknowledges the ongoing trust factor with his body, a confidence he believes will grow with consistent playing time. "I’m just trying to get back to, you know, what feels normal to me," he expressed.

Despite these physical challenges, Green's spirit remains undimmed. Coach Ott praised Green's dedication to his rehabilitation and his positive presence off the court. "It never stopped him from (being) who he is, just a general joy that he is to be around," Ott remarked. "Even though he wasn’t playing, being there, on the bench, being supportive of his teammates, that’s a new piece for him and I think that’ll help him now that he’s out there."

This period before the All-Star break offers a valuable window for Green to gradually regain his game shape without the pressure of a packed schedule. The Suns will face the Mavericks and the Thunder before a well-deserved seven-day break for the NBA All-Star Weekend. The only exception to this extended rest will be Devin Booker, who is set to compete in the 3-point contest and the All-Star Game.

"It just starts with the minutes," Ott said of Green's reintegration. "Once that competitive range goes up and he feels good with his conditioning piece, we’ll all be in a much better spot."

What do you think? Is Jalen Green the missing piece the Suns need to make a serious playoff push, or are the lingering injury concerns too great a risk? Share your thoughts in the comments below – we'd love to hear your take!
